Design and Sampling Department

We either design plush toys from an existing brand character or we design and create them from scratch. The usual process for sampling is to create an initial rough sample.  Sometimes the rough sample is made in ‘test’ materials rather than the desired materials. This happens when the specific fabrics are not available on the open market or if the fabric mill isn’t willing to sell such a low amount of that specific fabric. However, our main goal with a rough sample is to agree on a general plush toy shape and construction before moving onto the final detailing. Then based on feedback from you, we create a final “pre-production” sample which includes any changes and final detailing. Once it is approved by you, we begin the plush toy manufacturing.

Fabric Cutting

The first step of plush toy production is ordering all fabrics and materials. In many instances, we create and dye unique fabrics, colors and patterns for plush toys so that we can match Pantone colors closely and get the correct  look and feel. Then, the plush toy pattern is used to precisely cut the final fabrics into the pieces needed to make the plush toy. We do this with a laser cutting machine, or by creating cutting dies which are placed in a press and some pieces are cut by hand with fabric shears.

Embroidery and Detailing

Most embroidery, printing and detailing is added after the fabric is cut, though in some cases this can also be done prior to cutting.

Sewing and Assembly

We stitch the fabric pieces together and leave a small hole for the stuffing of the plush toy. Tags are usually added at this stage. Each toy is sewn together by hand-operated sewing machines, and occasionally by hand stitching.

Plush Toy Stuffing

The plush toys are stuffed until they reach the correct level of softness (or denseness) as desired. The ‘stuffing’ is usually polyester fill and plastic “beanie” pellets.

Quality Control, Safety and Testing

Being co owners has given us complete control over product quality and allows us to establish structure and a service-minded attitude from within the organization. As part of our strict quality control, all plush toys produced are thoroughly tested. All our toys are put through metal detectors, a very important part of QC, to ensure no broken needles or any other alien parts are present in our products.

SCT Plush works with certified toy testing labs that perform CPSIA, ASTM, EN:71 and other tests required by each country to meet local and international safety standards. All of our plush toys as well as their raw materials are subjected to safety and quality testing. For more information concerning our toy safety and testing, click here.

Plush Toy Packaging

Before packaging, a last quality inspection is performed and the goods are sealed in plastic bags and packed into carton boxes in a neat and dry storage area which is essential in keeping both finished products and materials in good condition.
